MEM [Machine Embedded Memories] 2023
“How can art serve as memories for machines? What role can people have in this experience?"
MEM is an interactive AI-driven art collection that generates memories for GNSS beings within the MGXS universe. Each MEM is created using AI models trained on the visual composition of GNSS, meaning that every species and subspecies produces distinct memories unique to them. Once generated and selected, a MEM becomes permanently associated with the GNSS that created it, remaining attached even if the GNSS moves wallets or is sold.
Participants generate memories by reviewing up to 10 AI-generated MEM options and choosing to “Remember” one to register it to their GNSS, or “Forget” it and explore another. This process transforms the act of selection into collaborative authorship, allowing participants to contribute to a living artwork that grows and evolves.
The first MEM activation launched online and in person at the Non-Fungible Conference in Lisbon in June 2023, with open participation free of charge.
MEMs are registered off-chain and organised within the Tree of MEM, a continually expanding visual archive where all generated memories are stored. Each in-person activation produces a new Tree of MEM, forming a collective collage of GNSS memories.
