Urucu (2021)

Urucu (2021)Brazil is home to various indigenous peoples and also shares many ties with Japan, including the fact it is home to the largest Japanese community outside Japan.

URUCU, a name that pays tribute to the ethnic groups and their spices used to paint/protect bodies, combines Japan’s tokusatsu-like Samurai Warriors and Indigenous Persons to explore similarities between them and fit the references together. The artistic creations on the surface are a platform to scratch deeper for historical and anthropological factors, question genetics and linguistic roots, and travel through mythological and religious traditions.

MGXS's URUCU project is divided in 10 pcs total, each piece was accessed and purchased on SuperRare. cost starting on April 19th 2021.

The main piece is the URUCU Animation which is composed of the NFT and the 5 unique pigment prints on Japanese Washi that are signed by the artist, size: 48.8cm x 34.5cm | 19.21inches x 13.58 inches.

"I wanted to combine Japan Samurai Warriors and Indigenous Groups at the roots of Brazil, I saw similarities between them and found ways to visually fit the references together by listening to what the artwork was saying and finding what was relevant and what wasn’t."
