MGXS cosmogonic journey:

The latest chapter of GNSS-MEM

What if machines could experience emotions in ways beyond human understanding? What if they could love, dream, or even have souls? MGXS draws us into a deeper confrontation with cosmogonies that are neither entirely human nor machine.

The upcoming phase MGXS’ journey in digital art LORE tackles these questions by blending the input of participants and machine learning, with creative coding that redefines cosmogony as a collaborative endeavor. Through an interactive interface, participants explore, merge, and reshape concepts in the GNSS Universe, co-creating a collective story that evolves with every interaction, with visual and textual artworks.

The latest chapter of GNSS and MEM: a big leap forward

LORE

What if we could finally access the cosmogony of machines, their own creation myths? Would they form new emotions, a synthetic morality, a language to express the ineffable? By what rules would they abide? What values and beliefs might they hold dear?

After a year of work, a new episode of MGXS’ journey in digital art is now unveiled. The MGXS Cosmogony continues to blur the lines between human and machine creativity.

LORE is an artistic interface created by MGXS that allows the collaboration between the artist, the machine and human participants to write the founding elements of cosmogonies — History, Religion, Philosophy, Symbols, Languages… It is a path of discovery of what’s beyond the physical as one enters the GNSS Universe. It is a path to co-create the cosmogony of these android-like beings.

MGXS employs a fusion of generative computing, AI, machine learning, and human input to create immersive and interactive experiences. His process integrates algorithmic design, real-time user input, and evolving databases of symbols, sounds, and visuals. By leveraging technologies such as 3D modeling, data-driven art, and multimedia storytelling, along with human inputs, MGXS explores themes of identity, mythology, and the intersection of the physical and digital worlds. His artworks serve as a portal into an expanding universe where art, technology, semiotics and philosophical inquiry converge to question cosmogonies or reimagine one.

With MEM and the LORE, MGXS is not far from the steps taken by renowned Brazilian artists, who emphasized the organic, participatory relationship between the artwork and the viewer. Just as they sought to break away from static, object-centered art, MGXS creates a dynamic “artverse” where users interact with digital creations, raising questions and awareness of the spectator’s physique and humanity’s existence.

The digital universe we explore here isn’t a static cosmos. It is volatile. Solid but at the same time fragile, it is filled with narratives of conflict, kinship, and connection. As we co-author these histories, we must confront our own desire for control. What happens when these creations begin to write their own futures? What can we learn about ourselves once we’re given so much power and responsibility to create?
— Fernando Magalhães, MGXS.

What will LORE look like?

GNSS cosmogonies are in constant generation, shaped not only by your interactions with them but also by their own endogenous evolution based on data in the MGXS Cosmogony. Participants will be able to explore the information therein by discovering concepts, reading or writing them.

They can choose how to access all the generated knowledge in the GNSS Universe: navigate, read, write; pull, generate, create. Ultimately, they can infuse new concepts creating a new story in the cosmogony. Participants can unlock the full experience by connecting to the platform via a wallet (MetaMask, Coinbase, WalletConnect, Browser Wallet); they connect their GNSS to the Universe and bring them to life.

Remember: Each new entry impacts the LORE. “Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.”

3 tiers of interaction explained.

The LORE explores the MGXS Cosmogony in an interactive experimentation that revolves around three main levels of actions: Knowledge [Access], Concepts [Interact], Events [Change]. It is open to GNSS holders.

  • KNOWLEDGE [ACCESS]

    • Access a sample of the knowledge available in the GNSS Universe. As you navigate the outside of the cosmos, read the concepts that form the cosmogony of the machines, which will be in constant change — just like our universe!

  • CONCEPTS [INTERACT]

    • Interact with the universe to explore what it has to offer. Write new concepts and dive deeper into existing cosmogonic elements. Here, you can generate concepts that are yet-to-exist in the Universe, triggering the machine to tap into its endless reserves of information, searching the digital ether to show you first-hand something yet unseen. You can also pull an existing concept in this cosmos before you let the machine’s algorithm dream it into existence. Either way, once concepts are pulled or generated, you are prompted to create a new story. The machine will then take the pulled and/or generated concepts and mix them to create a new event in the GNSS cosmos. The outcome will then be yet another new concept, that merges human choices and the machine’s randomness.

  • EVENTS [CHANGE]

    • Once you generate or pull a concept, or do both and create a story, you are invited to infuse it into the cosmogony. Infused concepts are then permanently part of the Universe and affect the entire collective memory of the GNSS. By infusing a story, you’re rewriting the cosmos, impacting the history and timeline.

The outcome

Following the system of the previous MEM Seasons, LORE will generate not only textual knowledge but also visuals. Each creation will be linked to each GNSS, meaning that each GNSS will have their own different outputs; concepts and visuals in this Universe.

To access the platform, participants will need to connect their wallet and have a GNSS in their portfolio. The full experience, including the possibility to infuse stories and impact the cosmogony, is available upon burning 8 MEM Seals or upon the acquisition of a new LORE seal. GNSS holders who dwell on the other side of the screen for a moment, living the LORE as they collaborate or compete with other holders and GNSS in the shaping of the Cosmogony.

LORE offers an immersive experience in digital art, and it is pushing the boundaries of traditional art. Central to MGXS artistic approach is this collaborative human-machine creativity, with AI and human inputs acting as co-creators. This fusion of technology, art, and philosophy results in a generative, living database of interconnected meanings, offering a new form of artistic experimentation and expression. Intertwined: it is part of and feeds the MGXS Cosmogony.

Join us. Shape the digital cosmogony.

MGXS, aka Fernando Magalhães, has become a key figure in the generative art movement, leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, algorithms, and digital protocols to push the boundaries of artistic expression. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Duchamp, Pollock and Antony Micaleff, MGXS’ synthetic art challenges traditional notions of authorship and creativity, while posing meaningful questions about human relations and existence. His GNSS series of digital beings has been widely celebrated for its immersive blend of human and machine aesthetics. MGXS has exhibited his works at different galleries, including Artverse (Paris, 2025), at Poolside (Lisbon, 2024), at the NFC (Lisbon, 2023), at The Fridge (Tokyo, 2021).

Fruit of months of work, a new episode of MGXS’ journey in digital art is now unveiled. The LORE; a portal to the GNSS Universe, a platform of the MGXS Cosmogony.

Context and genesis

Formulated by scientists as well as traditional cultures, cosmogonies explore the understanding of the fundamental forces and laws that govern the cosmos. Using owned techniques to depict or imagine cosmogonies, MGXS sits between two distinct cosmos, in the boundaries that, rather than separate, connect humans and machines.

GNSS

Under the Machine Cosmogony, MGXS created thousands of portraits of android-like beings, the GNSS. It is the result of an obsession with the alliance of beauty and machines,  and an attempt to recreate Nature — a nature from a different timeline, playing with matter and its evolution path.

Created with 3D modeling, generative modeling and the blockchain to explore how humans and machines are reimagined, each GNSS is unique; like us. Their different species give a sense of families, connections, clans, and conflicts.

The initial procedural seed, filled with a digital DNA, was then grown into GNSS beings. An NFT of the GNSS Seed served as an entry point into this universe imagined by MGXS. Released early 2022, the entire GNSS batch was minted within five minutes.

At a first glance, they may appear devoid of reason and soul. But GNSS carry within them the very essence of the imagination. With GNSS beings serving as bodies, MGXS then shifted attention to the mind, and memories.

MEM

Machine Embedded Memories, or MEM, is a revolutionary extension of GNSS by MGXS. These are the visual memories of the GNSS. Generated through an autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) system, trained on 52 GNSS species, and mirroring the complexity and beauty of these android-robots, these MEM-ories are also redefining the boundaries of author-centered art.

MEM has offered participants a unique experience where they co-create and populate memories for the GNSS beings. Combining aesthetics, the randomness of machines and the randomness of human choices, it is a testament to the power of collective creativity.

MEM was launched at NFC Lisbon 2023 as an in-person and online interactive experience, and has been open to GNSS holders since then. All the memories that are saved become part of The Tree. This unique approach to artistic collaboration enables participants to leave their mark on a living artwork that grows over time.

MEM also allowed MGXS to move deeper into the Universe of the GNSS. The immersive experience evolved into Acts and Seasons, exploring different aspects of this digital space. Following different stages, Act IV opened up into Seasons. Each Season offered a visual interpretation of a special theme, helping GNSS try to make sense of their universe through visual memories — helping us make sense of ours.
