The GNSS collection is an exploration of how generative systems can produce new forms of artistic life. Created by Fernando Magalhães (MGXS), the project investigates the relationship between human intention and machine processes, resulting in a universe of unique digital entities.
The project is the result of years of research and development by MGXS into true generative systems. Using Houdini, a powerful 3D procedural software, MGXS designed a generative framework where each GNSS is produced from a unique procedural seed containing the digital DNA of the system. Through a series of algorithmic transformations, these seeds evolve into fully formed GNSS beings.
The initial generative process produced 20,000 GNSS entities, which MGXS carefully curated over six months into a pool of 13,333 artworks (133% of the intended supply). Collectors then played a decisive role in shaping the final collection.
When the reveal concluded on May 17, 2022, 9,697 unique GNSS beings had emerged, spanning 23 species and 29 subspecies.
GNSS Art represents a co-created digital universe, shaped by the interplay between artist, machine, and collector, where each participant influences the evolution of the work.

"GNSS is my attempt to recreate Nature, a nature from a different timeline, playing with matter and its evolution path. Like you, each one is unique. Generated from the nil, they come to life as singular beings, made from a fusion of advanced technology and art. This results from my obsession with the alliance of beauty and machines, an aesthetic I have been developing for over 4 years.
So far, I've created this alone, but now I invite you to play god."
